Immigration Physical Las Vegas: What to Expect From the Immigration Medical Exam
Immigration medical examinations are normally required in the case of a change of status, for example, if you were to apply for a green card (Form I-485) or a request for “V” nonimmigrant status (Form I-539). In order to get an Immigration Physical Las Vegas exam, you need to get a medical doctor who is authorized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

There are a few documents that you need to bring to your USCIS medical doctor in order for him to be able to complete your file and perform your Immigration Physical Las Vegas.
You are required to bring:
- Form I-693, which is the Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record
- A government-issued ID (children under 14 can bring a birth certificate or an ID that shows his name, date of birth, place of birth, and parent’s full name)
- Immunization records
- Your insurance card
- The doctor’s fees
You can print out the latest version of Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record from the USCIS website and you’re required to bring the form with you to your physician. It’s important to note that you must not sign Part 1 of the form until your medical doctor tells you to.
What to Expect When You Go for an Immigration Medical Exam Las Vegas
The immigration medical includes several non-comprehensive exams only for certain medical conditions. Women on their periods are still able to come to the examination with no problems.
The physical includes the following:
- Medical history
- Physical examination
- Chest x-ray
- Blood tests for syphilis
- Physical examination

When you come to our medical facility in Las Vegas and request an immigration exam, a qualified doctor will see you and test you for infectious diseases such as syphilis, which is done via a blood test right there at the doctor’s office, and tuberculosis, which is performed in two parts.
In addition to the diseases tests, your USCIS doctor here at Partida Corona Medical Center will also check if you need to get more immunizations in the case of an incomplete vaccinations form. These immigration physicals also require x-rays to patients over the age of 15. Children under the age of 15 are normally not required to get them, though.
At the end of the examination, the doctor will ask you to sign Part 1 of Form I-693. He will also sign the form and seal it. Be sure not to open the sealed envelope and mail it straight to the USCIS.
What Happens in the Case of Mental Illness?
Patients with mental conditions need to bring a report explaining the disability and details on supervision and education. Patients with a history of suicide attempts or any type of harmful behavior history will need to provide details so that the medical doctor can determine whether the violent behavior was due to drugs or alcohol or if it’s related to a medical problem.
What if I Tested Positive for Tuberculosis or Syphilis in the Past?
First of all, be sure to bring a certificate from your doctor if you’ve ever tested positive for tuberculosis or syphilis so that the USCIS doctor can understand your case fully. The report should outline what treatment you underwent, and how long the treatment was. If you had a positive test but were not treated, bring a note signed by your doctor explaining why.
In the case of an anomalous chest x-ray, check with your doctor to get your last films and bring them to your Immigration Physical Las Vegas exam appointment.
What are the Responsibilities of a USCIS Medical Doctor?
Approved USCIS doctors are also known as civil surgeons. The civil surgeon is responsible for completing the Immigration Medical Exam Las Vegas according to the regulations of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.)
Additionally, he is required to refer the patient to a specialist in the cases of a patient needing further treatment, filing the medical report according to the instructions provided, and give written and truthful account of the results on Form I-693.
